About to start cooking dinner and want to know if Sunflower oil is safe to eat on the Paleo diet? Sunflower oil is commonly thought of as a replacement in baking that seems like it is OK on the Paleo diet since Sunflower seeds are OK.
No! Sunflower oil is not Paleo friendly 👎!
Why is Sunflower Oil Not Paleo?
Sunflower oil does not meet Paleo standards because:
- It requires heavy processing to produce – Simply put, Sunflower Oil requires a heavy amount of processing before it can be used in cooking. This extraction process was not available in the past, making this oil not an option for paleo dieters.
- It was not available to eat during the paleo era – Paleo is about eating foods that were available to humans in the past and avoiding certain types of foods. As you can imagine, there were not many people thousands of years ago cooking with Sunflower Oil!
Our Final Say
Is Sunflower Oil unhealthy? No – but that does not mean it is safe for paleo dieters to cook with!
